Social Media and the Hiring Process - Post 4

In this day and age when social media is constantly growing, employers must be careful with the types of information they access through social media. In 2030, using social media as lone tool to screen candidates could pose as a problem for these employers as it does not give them the best overview of a potential employee (SRG, n.g. para 9). In addition, accessing too much information could also lead to discrimination cases (SRG, n.g. para 9). In the past, employees would have a lot of freedom on what they could say outside of word. However, in 2030, sharing opinions on social media on topics such as gay marriage, religion, and other sensitive topics could indirectly reflect on their employers (Kumar, 2015). This might deter some companies from either hiring that candidate or extending their contract, which in turn, could lead to a potential lawsuit. Therefore, it is important to remember that in 2030, companies will have to be careful with what information they access through social media.
