Social Media and the Hiring Process - Post 1
In this day and age, social media is prominent in the lives of
nearly everybody living on the planet today. Social media websites enable users
to share content, collaborate, and provide their input (Rouse, 2016). Websites
such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Tumblr are some that come to mind
when talking about social media. These platforms let users share pictures,
thoughts, and opinions on the on-goings of the world (Rouse, 2016). The up-rise of social media has slowly drained the level of
privacy out of our lives. Social media has multiple uses for things such as
sharing pictures and videos, and staying connected with friends and family
(Summit Research Group [SRG], n.d., para 2). However, social media can also
have some down falls that can increase the level of scrutiny you might face in
your life (SRG, n.g. para 2). In 2030, the likelihood of an
employer conducting a background checking using social media platforms could potentially
be the norm. For hiring departments, social media websites can provide
information about their potential employees that they would not normally have
(SRG, n.g. para 6). Social media in 2030 will pose as both an advantage and
disadvantage for both employers and potential employees.
