Impact of Social Media on Work Dynamics: Post 1
Technology and social media have become our security
blankets, according to majority of the digital natives who report that they
carry their devices everywhere they go (Singer, 2015). It seems that we feel
safer knowing that we have access to any information or anyone, at the tip of
our fingers (Singer, 2015). Technology and social media has changed the way we
consume information. It also appears to be changing how we learn and communicate
at workplace.
Rather than face-to-face interaction, we prefer emails or
texts. It has been agreed by experts that communication at workplaces has
changed drastically in the past few years (Keller, 2013). We tend to rely on
the weak ties that we make on social media rather than the strong ties that can
be formed via face-to-face interaction (Keller, 2013). It is safe to say that
social media will continue to become increasingly integrated into the workplace
experience (Keller, 2013). By 2030, interactions at workplace will revolve
around video-chats, e-mails, and other communication apps (Singer, 2015).
Orientation and learning at workplace in 2030 is also
believed to take place through internet enabled devices, integrated with interactions
via social media apps (Singer, 2015).
ReplyDeleteYou are 100% correct Richa. Social media has become the norm when it comes to the younger generation. Research shows that 70% of teenagers ranging between the ages of 12 to 17 spend time on social media websites on a daily basis (Stein, 2014). This is an immense number that will constantly be on the upside. Keeping this trend in mind, it is safe to say that in 2030, social media will he heavily integrated into the workplace.
