Social Media and the Hiring Process - Post 2
In the past, employers
were restricted and limited to the details that employees have provided on
their hard copy resumes. With the rise of social media, employers have ability
to access a vast amount of information regarding person interest, social
interaction and even previous work (SRG, n.g. para 6). In 2006, research
indicated that 11 percent of employers were using social media to screen
candidates before hiring them (Brooks, 2017). In 2017, nearly 70% of all
employers use social media to screen their potential employees (Brooks, 2017). In
2030, that number is expected to rise. 25% of hiring managers expect employees
to have online presence and 60% are inclined to not call the candidate if they
cannot find them online (Brooks, 2017). This shows that in 2030, it will be
important to maintain a positive online persona.
