History of Social Media and Social Media in Work Post 4
In the year of 2017 most people are using at
least one type of social media networking site. Social media plays a major role
in building someone’s online identity. When a social media user adds pictures,
videos and personal information to their account it builds their online
identity. This online identity not only attracts others on social media
accounts but is also looked at by employers. “About 91% of employers use social
media networking sites to screen potential candidates and about 69% of
employers reject candidates based on their findings on social media sites” (Allen, n.d., p. 5). This number shows
that more and more workplaces are using social media at this time. The use of
social media as a screening agent for employers to help select candidates will
only grow with time due to the increasing number of social media users.
