History of Social Media and Social Media in Work Post 1

Social media is a big part of many lives in 2017. Many people are active on social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, Tumblr and Pinterest. But that was not always the case. Based on a study conducted by Princeton Survey Research Associates International, in 2013 81% of people used the internet while only 57% of people used the internet in 2002 (Brenner & Duggan, 2013, p. 10). Within an eleven year gap there is a 24% increase in the amount of internet users. This increase is also seen with the use of social media. In 2013 67% of people used Facebook while in 2009 only 46% did (Brenner & Duggan, 2013, p. 11). In 2013 16% of people used Twitter while in 2010 only 8% did (Brenner & Duggan, 2013, p. 11). There has been an increase in the amount of users on social media within the last couple years and this amount is only expected to grow based on current outcomes.
